Carlin is the Assistant Director of Programs and Outreach at the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard University, where she oversees its communications strategy, events programming and audience outreach. She publicizes and promotes the Institute’s research, programs, and events to increase local and global awareness, and manages the Institute’s website, newsletter, and social media. Carlin engages with faculty and other members of the Harvard community to build stories and content about the Institute’s work for all of its platforms.

Prior to her position at Harvard, Carlin was the Director of Operations and Outreach at the Boston Book Festival. She previously worked for the global research-action network, Women in Informal Labour Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO), and was the editor of URB.IM, a cities-focused site on urbanization. She has written for the Guardian, the Boston Globe, Next City, and Citiscope and has taught writing online to undergraduates for more than a decade. 

Carlin received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and a master’s from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
