Aarti Home is a grass roots not for profit working in making the society a better place for women and children. Aarti works with women, children and society at large to stop the cycle of female abandonment, mistreatment, and infanticide in India.

Started in 1992, Aarti works not just at the effect of female abandonment, but also causes – lack of financial and social empowerment and education. Aarti works to create an attitudinal change in the society, an effort that has started to show results in areas of Kadapa district, where the girl child ratios have improved.

 

 

Qualifications 

This internship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Ideal volunteer candidates are young, open-minded individuals who demonstrate empathy and are able to use their skills to shape young minds. Volunteer requirements include solid communications skills, ability or interest in working with children, the ability to collaborate effectively, flexibility and positivity, and a willingness to learn. Applicants must be fluent in English.

Responsibilities 

Aarti Home

  • Creating structures for Aarti Home as we move from a single home to a village structure.
  • Creating measurement criteria for Aarti home in accordance to UNICEF goals
  • Teaching children and helping them gain not just skills but mentor them and help them dream

Aarti Education

  • Creating the education modules using MOOCs like khan academy  for Aarti School
  • Mentoring teachers to flip classrooms
  • Using research methodology to identify impact and scale

Aarti Communications

  • Content development and documenting women’s successes
  • Social media development – maintenance of Aarti VFT’s Facebook page, website improvements, blog and vlog creation
  • Communication platform for donors and sponsors
  • Professional writing – writing project proposals and grants.
  • Content development and documenting women’s successes

Stipend

Volunteers are housed at the Aarti Home for a fee of Rs. 5,000/month and should expect to share a room with other volunteers. Facilities include:

  • Hygiene: washing machine, Western toilet, shower, towels, bed with sheets
  • Cooking: toaster, microwave, refrigerator, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, kettle, safe drinking water Communications: wireless Internet, printer/scanner available in office, laptop for use during volunteer’s stay
  • For purchase: basic foods (cereal, soda, specialty tea and coffee, toiletries)
  • Daily meals and transportation are provided by Aarti VFT at no additional cost, though volunteers must make their own arrangements if they wish to purchase additional food or require out-of-work transportation.
