Nandan Nilekani, former Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) delivered the SAI Annual Mahindra Lecture on Nov. 3. During his tenure as chairman of UIDAI, Nilekani designed and implemented Aadhaar, a national biometric identification project wherein each Indian is issued a twelve-digit number that is unique to them.
SAI held its Annual Symposium on April 24 and 25 titled ‘South Asia Regionalism: Workshops on Shared Challenges and the Way Forward.’ The workshops highlighted and showcased ongoing faculty research projects supported by SAI. Topics included mobile technology, disaster response and mental health, urbanism in South Asia, urban water challenges, religion and secularism, and the informal economy.
The spirit of collaboration and community that made this year’s Kumbh Mela festival so successful was on vivid display at the workshop on August 29 and 30 at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
