Raghunathan Fellowship<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute, Harvard University is pleased to offer the Raghunathan Family Fellowship to support recent PhDs in the humanities and social sciences related to South Asia. Research topics can cover any period of South Asian history or contemporary South Asia. <\/p>\n

ABOUT<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Raghunathan Family Fellowship is a Cambridge-based fellowship where the selected fellow will join the Mittal Institute community on Harvard\u2019s campus for the duration of the academic year. \u00a0The selected <\/b>Raghunathan<\/b> Fellow will be expected to be in residence for the full 2025\/2026 Academic Year <\/b>(please see Harvard\u2019s Academic Calendar<\/a> for exact dates).<\/p>\n

While working directly with their selected Faculty Mentor on their personal research project (proposed in their application), the Raghunathan Family Fellow will fully engage with the intellectual life at the Mittal Institute and at Harvard. At the end of their residency the Raghunathan fellow will present their work in a Mittal Institute seminar moderated by their faculty mentor. Apart from their own research, fellows will participate in grant and fellowship review, mentor graduate students and help collaborate on other events and projects at the Institute.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0Fellowship Details<\/strong>
<\/b><\/h3>\n

Scholars are expected to be in residence for the full academic year of this fellowship. For the 2025-26 academic year, it will be September 2, 2025 \u2013 May 28, 2026. The selected fellow will be guaranteed a desk space for this term.<\/p>\n

The gross stipend for the Raghunathan is $67,600 for 12 months, equivalent to a monthly gross stipend of $5,633.33 USD paid on the last business day of the month. This amount is prorated based on the fellowship start and end dates. For nonresident aliens, Harvard may be required to take taxes out of the payment up front. Please contact the Nonresident Alien Tax Office<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n

Round-trip economy travel expenses and visa fees from South Asia to Boston will also be reimbursed (for participants residing in South Asia only). All reimbursements and stipends are limited to the dates of the appointment.<\/p>\n

The Mittal Institute nor Harvard University does not sponsor, provide, nor procure housing for fellows during their residency. Fellows are expected to have at least temporary housing by the start date of their fellowship and arrival in Cambridge. More information and resources on housing in the Cambridge area can be found on the FAS Office of Postdoctoral Affairs: <\/i>https:\/\/postdoc.fas.harvard.edu\/housing<\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/b><\/h3>\n

Candidates must have completed their PhD by February 2025 and within five years of the fellowship start date. For the AY25\/26 cycle, this means their PhD should be awarded after September 1, 2020, for a start date of September 1, 2025. Priority will be given to scholars who have not previously accessed Harvard\u2019s resources and have primarily studied at institutions in South Asia.<\/p>\n

Deadlines<\/b><\/h3>\n

The application window for the Academic Year 2025\/26 Fellowship is now closed. The window will reopen in Fall 2025.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Decisions will be made typically within 2 \u2013 3 months of the application deadline.<\/i><\/p>\n
