The Mittal Institute works on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and diaspora populations from these countries. In India, the Mittal Institute has an office in New Delhi. In Pakistan and Nepal, the Institute maintains a presence with a local program director.

The Mittal Institute’s India office serves as a connector and convener in the region, bringing experts together from across South Asia to identify and share their knowledge on science, art, culture, economics, and more. The office forms new partnerships and projects between Harvard and other institutions, bringing a steady stream of scholars from South Asia to the US to be trained and return to the region to develop new and renewed partnerships with local academic, public, and private institutions.

Returning artists, scholars, and scientists share their knowledge through a network they built during their time in the US, and members of these networks are given a platform to showcase their work through numerous events organized by the India office.
