Global Advocacy and Expertise in Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD)

Dr. Aravind’s work is deeply focused on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and their disproportionate impact on premature death. As a passionate advocate, he has delivered over 100 lectures on this topic, raising awareness about preventable causes of early mortality. His expertise has also led him to advise government, non-governmental, corporate, and university policy-making bodies on strategies to address the growing burden of CVD, particularly in South Asia, West Africa and other low-resource settings.

Dr. Aravind’s academic journey includes postgraduate studies in Italy, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, where he trained at the University of Zurich, the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, which is ranked 7th among the hospitals worldwide. With over eight years of experience at Charité, he continues his doctoral research there. Dr. Aravind is a pioneering force in advancing cardiac care in Liberia and other West African countries. He initiated the formation of a national task force for cardiology in Liberia, which later evolved into the Liberia Cardiac Society, where he currently serves as President. Under his leadership, the Liberia Cardiac Society has become a key player in shaping healthcare policies and driving forward the country’s efforts to improve cardiovascular health.

Transformative Initiatives in Cardiac Care

Through his leadership, Dr. Aravind is spearheading a transformative initiative to enhance cardiac care in Liberia. Drawing on data from a cohort of 8,000 PCI patients in India, he is identifying critical gaps in PCI delivery and using this information to develop national strategies in India. His work aims to advise health policymakers on the importance of thrombolysis, the establishment of Cath Lab units, and raising awareness about PCI treatment in south Asia and West African Countries

Infrastructure Development for Accessible Healthcare

To address infrastructure gaps in Liberia, Dr. Aravind is working to establish thrombolysis units across 10 counties and chest pain units in 14 counties, ensuring that even the most remote regions have access to timely care. The capital, Monrovia, will house a fully dedicated Cath Lab, while a mobile Cath Lab on a truck will move across the country and then to West African countries to bring PCI services directly to underserved areas. “This approach combines mobile healthcare, thrombolysis, and telemedicine to reduce delays in treatment, improve outcomes, and provide scalable solutions for underserved regions in West Africa, South Asia, and other countries with unmet healthcare needs, creating a model for development in these regions and beyond.”

“A Global Cardiac Care Model Derived from Indian PCI Data Research: Transforming Healthcare in Low-Resource Settings”

Dr. Aravind’s work has the potential to revolutionize cardiac care in Liberia, across West Africa, and South Asia, including India, and his innovative model is poised to be replicated in other low-resource settings globally. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, strategic healthcare infrastructure, and data-driven insights, his efforts aim to save lives, reduce premature cardiovascular deaths, and build sustainable healthcare solutions for the future.
