Atanu Chakraborty is a career civil servant and retired from Indian Administrative Service (IAS), where he served for more than three decades. He served Union of India as Secretary in Ministry of Finance, in Departments of Economic Affairs as well Disinvestment. He dealt with coordination of economic policy, management of project finance from multilateral institutions, budget-making, and formulation of policy for capital markets. He also carried out privatization of state-owned enterprises.
Chakraborty has also managed the finances of the Government at the provincial level in Gujarat. Early in his career, he served as head of district administration, the cutting edge for governance and development. He has served as Chief Executive of companies in the spaces of petroleum and fertilizer sectors and has also served on the board of Reserve Bank of India. He has also been the regulator of upstream hydrocarbon sector of India.
Chakraborty has worked on the intersection of finance, both public and corporate, and infrastructure. He is deeply interested in evolving viable public policy models in health, education and urban sectors. He has written on the privatization of infrastructure, public finance, and natural gas. He is trained as an engineer in electronics and telecommunication, and received his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the United Kingdom.
