Ingsa Subba is a Master in Design Studies candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He hails from the Himalayan state of Sikkim in India. His work explores the intersections of computation, language, sound, culture, and design. His current research project, Sound Topographies, investigates how the linguistic and sonic structures of Eastern Himalayan languages can be mapped, modeled, and translated into new computational and interactive forms. He is particularly interested in how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence can support new approaches to cultural preservation, knowledge systems, and the representation of underrepresented languages and communities. At Harvard, he is exploring connections between design, AI, linguistics, and human intelligence to develop new ways of understanding and engaging with language as both cultural heritage and computational data.
