Muhammad Ayaz is a researcher dedicated to exploring the impact of globalization of production on developing countries. His research interests focus on economic, social, and environmental upgrading in global value chains (GVCs), corporate social responsibility, and the role of intermediary actors in the governance of GVCs. His work has been published in top-ranked management journals.

As the Mittal Institute’s Syed Babar Ali Fellow in spring 2025, Ayaz intends to further investigate the role of intermediary actors in promoting environmental sustainability within GVCs. His research will particularly focus on the textile and clothing industry, one of the most polluting sectors globally, with significant relevance to South Asia.

Ayaz is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, Pakistan, where he teaches international business and strategy courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds a PhD in Management from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan.

Prior to joining IBA, Ayaz worked as a teaching fellow at the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) at LUMS. He has also served as a consultant for leading European and American clothing and sports goods brands as well as multi-stakeholder initiatives aimed at ensuring responsible sourcing in South Asia.
