Veronica Vargas, Ph.D., is an economist who focuses on global health, health policy, and pharmaceuticals. She has worked in academia and international organizations, mainly in Latin America, South Asia, and Eastern Europe, for more than 20 years. Her research projects have resulted in more than 30 articles, policy notes, and book chapters (here). She has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University for the last years and is currently a Research Affiliate at the Mittal South Asia Institute.

Sponsored by the Radcliffe Institute, on June 2020, she co-led with Prof. Ingrid Katz (Harvard Medical School) a seminar on South-to-South Collaboration for Vaccines and Therapeutics Innovation featuring India’s capacity for developing a Covid-19 vaccine. In the seminar’s second part, on May 2021, the pioneering role of the National Biodiversity Authority of India was discussed regarding the issues of Intellectual Property and Access to Genetic Resources. A recent publication Pharmaceutical Sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-authored with M. Rama and R. Singh from the World Bank, features Indian pharmaceutical companies as significant emerging partners.
