What we can learn from South Asia, both past and present? While South Asia is widely recognized as a beneficiary of Euro-American knowledge, the contributions that South Asian cultural, intellectual, social, and political practices can make to this knowledge are rarely explored. Similarly, the significance of these practices to contemporary South Asia is rarely globally recognized. Collective engagement with work in the arts, humanities, and social sciences makes it possible to move beyond the geographical, methodological, temporal, and institutional borders that have shaped the study of South Asia and enables the discovery of the many South Asian resources available for addressing issues of contemporary significance to South Asian studies and beyond.
