Veronica Vargas holds a doctorate in economics and specializes in global health, health economics, and pharmaceuticals. With over 25 years of experience, she has worked extensively in academia and international organizations, including the World Bank and PAHO.
Her research endeavors have yielded about 40 articles, policy notes, and book chapters. She recently served as a guest co-editor for a special issue on Pharmaceutical Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean in the Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics (Fall 2023).
Dr. Veronica Vargas has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University and is currently a Research Associate at the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute. Her research revolves around fostering collaboration in vaccine and therapeutic innovation. As part of that effort, sheis working on the challenges and opportunities of developing a COVID-19 vaccine in the Global South. She also co-authored a publication titled “Pharmaceutical Sector in Latin America and the Caribbean: Players, Access and Innovation Across Diverse Models,” which highlights the role of Indian pharmaceutical companies as emerging partners.
Additionally, Dr. Vargas actively contributes to advancing health economics research through her role on the Scientific Panel of the International Health Economics Association (iHEA). She is also a co-founder of the Global Health, Biodiversity, and Therapeutics Innovation Consortium, which promotes pharmaceutical innovation and access.
