Congratulations to Sunil Amrith, the Mehra Family Professor of South Asian Studies at Harvard, on the fantastic achievement of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. The $625,000 award is given to 24 ‘geniuses’ every year.
“The real difference it will make is that it will make the projects that were somewhere in the dream category possible, the ones that don’t neatly fit into a research grant application but nevertheless bring out other dimensions of the issues I am passionate about,” Amrith told the Harvard Gazette. “The no-strings-attached element gives an even heightened sense of responsibility of needing to do something good with it.”
Congratulations also to Professor Amrith and his wife Ruth on the recent birth of their daughter Lydia. Not a bad week for the Amrith family.
