Home to nearly a sixth of humanity, the birthplace of many of the world’s great religions and philosophies, and now a hotbed for innovation and technological change, South Asia is truly the world’s laboratory, a space where we can experiment with the world’s most urgent challenges. Join leading academics from Harvard University in a discussion of the timely appeal of South Asia to the humanities—at the intersection of religion and civil society, ancient arts and cutting edge technologies.
On October 11, 2012 the South Asia Initiative went on the road to New York City, for an event hosted by Chandni and Mukesh Prasad entitled South Asia, A World’s Laboratory. Tarun Khanna, Director of SAI & Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor, HBS introduced the evening’s program, which featured talks by Parimal Patil, Professor of Religion and Indian Philosophy; Chair of the Department of South Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Shahab Ahmed, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and Rahul Mehrotra, Professor of Urban Design and Planning & Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, GSD. Hitesh Hathi, Producer of Here & Now, WBUR/NPR moderated the event.
