Update: March 16, 2020

Dear members of the Mittal Institute community,

The Mittal Institute is closely following and adhering to Harvard University’s response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone in our community and beyond are our top priorities here at the Mittal Institute.

As a team, we thought deeply about the best way to modify our Spring 2020 programming to accommodate the University’s response to the outbreak. Our events for March and April have been cancelled and our Seed for Change competition has been postponed, keeping in mind the continued health and safety of our community. Until further communication, please note that our Annual Symposium in May will be postponed.

The Mittal Institute’s role is to bring together our community through interdisciplinary programs to disseminate knowledge, build capacity, inform policy, and engage with issues that are shaping South Asia today. Though this role may be reduced this semester, we will continue to do our best to support our faculty, students, and the greater community during this time.

Here at the Mittal Institute, we are following the below guidelines to keep us safe and up to date:

As always, we are deeply grateful to the Mittal Institute’s community for its continued support not only on campus, but around the world. Together, we will get through this, and we look forward to welcoming you all back for new events and programming as soon as this passes.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at mittalsai@fas.harvard.edu.

Sincerely,

Tarun Khanna
Faculty Director, Mittal Institute
Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor, Harvard Business School

Meena Hewett
Executive Director, Mittal Institute

Update: March 11, 2020

Spring Events

Due to recent developments relating to COVID-19, Harvard University has strongly discouraged the gathering of 25 people or more for on-campus events through April 30th until further notice in the hope that this social distancing measure will limit the opportunity for illness to spread. Unfortunately, the Mittal Institute will need to cancel its events for March and April until instructed otherwise by University Administration. Our top priority remains the health, safety, and wellbeing of our community.

Please check back here for updates on future events and Fall 2020 programming.

Summer Student Grants

At this time, the Mittal Institute is continuing its student grant review process, with the intent to make final decisions available in mid-April. However, given the continuously changing nature of the COVID-19 response on campus and around the world, we ask that students remain flexible with their travel and academic planning for the summer term.

We will update all applicants as developments and new guidance is made available. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Seed for Change Student Competition

Due to recent developments relating to COVID-19, the Seed for Change program for the 2019–2020 academic cycle has been suspended. Please check back in Fall 2020 for information on the next application cycle.
