Every year, the Mittal Institute supports Graduate Student Associates (GSAs) from across the different schools at Harvard who are enrolled in a PhD program and whose research is focused on South Asia. We are now accepting applications for our next round of GSAs at the Mittal Institute.
The GSA program is centered on the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the program has been adapted to work in a virtual format.
GSA Activities
Each month, the GSAs participate in a virtual workshop organized by the Mittal Institute, where they present their current research to one another in rotation and receive feedback from their group of peers. As feasible, the GSAs will be welcomed to present at the Mittal Institute’s Faculty Cabinet meeting, which brings together prominent faculty members across disciplines who have an interest or research focus in South Asia, to receive feedback from the group on their work.
The Mittal Institute will organize an annual conference open to the public, where GSAs will have a platform to present themes and learnings from their research to a larger audience.
GSAs will also be provided with financial support for research activities and workshops with application and approval by the Mittal Institute. Upon request, GSAs can be introduced to the Mittal Institute’s network of institutions, faculty, and in-region staff.
GSA Responsibilities
GSAs contribute to the Mittal Institute community by attending select events and mentoring other GSAs. They participate in regular GSA meetings and provide valuable feedback to their fellow GSAs, and have the opportunity to be profiled on their current research or contribute to articles for the Mittal Institute website and newsletter.
