Hansong Li recently joined the Mittal Institute as a Graduate Student Associate for 2021-2022. He is a political scientist and intellectual historian in the Government Department at Harvard University. His research explores the languages and practices of interstate justice in South Asia, in comparison to East Asian and European traditions. As a Graduate Student Associate, Hansong will conduct further research on behalf of the Mittal Institute, focused on South Asia. The Mittal Institute sat down with Hansong to learn more about his background, his research motivations, and career aspirations.

With the support of the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute, Harvard Graduate School of Design student Emma Lewis carried out three weeks of remote research with the Ladakh Nuns Association (LNA) in Leh, Ladakh. The Global Alliance for Medical Innovation, a group of students and faculty based at
Harvard University working to increase access to healthcare via engineering and advocacy, was awarded a Mittal Institute Seed for Change grant in summer 2020. Their proposal explored the development of low-cost, scalable technologies to allow point-of-care diagnosis of common eye disorders in under-resourced regions of the globe.

This past Fall, the Mittal Institute began a program, Conservation of Culture, designed to support scholarship in art and conservation management, partnering with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) Museum in Mumbai, the Harvard Art Museums’ Straus Conservation Center, and Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
